Easy Peasy Fitness Tips

Easy Peasy Fitness Tips

To paraphrase a popular advertising slogan: when it comes to fitness, every little helps. A gym session or a swim is an obvious way to get your fitness fix. What do you do if this is completely new and you want to start with smaller steps?

The good news is that every bit of exercise helps, no matter how small - those easy exercises work too.

A few simple exercises that can be done by anyone, regardless of fitness, are all that is needed to get your body moving.

Exercise becomes more important as you age; ‘use it or lose it’ is very true. It really is never too late to do just a little more.

Need more incentive? It is just possible that exercise may make you look younger. Experiments on our good friends the mice have shown initial promising results. For those of us who aren’t mice, there’s no proof – but keeping fit can really help you to feel better for longer.

Try these other simple fitness tips:

Take every chance to move

Take the stairs rather than the lift, get off the bus early, park at the far end of the car park…there are lots of ways to fit in just a few more of those daily ten thousand steps.

Build exercise into your routine

Change those ‘let’s meet for coffee’ into a ‘let’s go for a walk’. Or at least make it ‘let’s go for a walk and THEN have coffee’!

Make those healthy food choices

The Change4Life campaign has lots of ideas for real-world healthy eating. Try their suggestions for getting your five a day and reducing your salt intake. Healthier choices don’t need to be more expensive or less tasty.

It’s all very well living to a good age, but we also want to be able to enjoy life for as long as possible.

So start moving now – and don’t be afraid to give the gym a try. There’s no age barrier!

those tips are certainly useful for those of stuck in an office on this murky day - I shall be making the most of the stairs!

I'm having a housework blitz today - lost count of the number of times I've been up and down the stairs putting things where they should be. At least it is exercise!

I run on the spot in front of the TV sometimes, or throw in a couple of starjumps and press ups. Small thing, but it does more good than sitting on the sofa!

Simple is best when it comes to good habits. As soon as it becomes complicated I tend to give up, - and eat chocolate (not the healthy dark kind!)

If it's going to make me look younger then I need no more convincing!

I find that a block of cheap dark chocolate is a great way for 'responsible indulgence' - break off two squares and then put the bar back in the cupboard.

I've swapped chocolate bars for chocolate covered rice cakes. It's a really small step - but hopefully a healthier one!
