A-Z of Superfoods: Avocado

A-Z of Superfoods: Avocado

Avocados are the unassuming super-food in your fridge. High in monounsaturated fat they can actually make you look younger by maintaining good moisture levels in your skin and rid you of wrinkles.

The oleic acid contained in avocados has been proven to reduce levels of dangerous low-density lipoprotein cholesterol.

Antioxidants contained in these little green beauty boosters help to guard against damaging effects of sun exposure and folate, Vitamin E and dietary fibre, guard against diabetes, heart disease and high cholesterol.

Although high in fat, avocados are full of slow release energy which essentially means that your hunger is reduced when you eat them and, and instead of being stored as body fat, the calories are released as energy throughout the day. For this reason they can help with losing weight.

Avocados are great for eye health and contain more potassium than bananas, which helps protect the heart.

Avocados are the ultimate skin food, with health benefits to boot!
