8 Guided Meditations to Help You Switch Off

Clearing your mind could actually prevent you from losing it, according to some new research on the benefits of meditation.

It’s well known that keeping the mind active can help to improve brain function, and now it’s thought that meditation can help combat the deterioration of the brain by clearing it of stress and giving your brain a kind of workout.

As we age we lose brain tissue, and this process can begin as young as 20. Exercising the brain, by doing mental puzzles, and by meditating can help prevent this atrophy we experience when we age.

Guided meditation is helpful for our brains by helping us to switch off, clear our minds and help keep the brain agile. If you can switch off for just three minutes a day, then your brain will benefit for the rest of your life.

UCLA Mindful Awareness Research Centre has come up with eight guided meditation downloads that you can play and meditate to. It takes a bit of getting used to but the biggest challenge is learning to switch off.  The downloads cover Breathing Meditation, Breath, Sound, Body meditation, Complete Meditation Instructions, Meditation for Working With Difficulties, Loving Kindness Meditation, Body and Sound Meditation, Body Scan Meditation, and Body Scan for Sleep. You can download all eight here.

Once mastered, you should aim to practice every day to achieve the best results, and researchers believe you will see an improvement in 4-6 weeks.
