7 BENEFITS OF REGULAR EXERCISE

7 BENEFITS OF REGULAR EXERCISE

Let’s be honest; there are some days when getting out of the front door for some exercise seems just too much like hard work. It’s raining, there’s something good on the telly, the kids don’t want to leave the sofa…there’s always an excuse.

On days like these, we definitely need to remind ourselves just why we exercise.

So here are the magnificent seven of good reasons to get moving:

1.     EXERCISE BOOSTS MOOD

Surely nothing is more important in life than happiness? Exercise releases those feel good body endorphins, and doing your body good always feels good. So this reason is now promoted to the top of the list!

2.     EXERCISE KEEPS YOUR BODY IN SHAPE

Exercise tones and strengthens muscles, making the best of your body shape. You won’t get taller, you won’t get longer legs or thinner thighs, but your posture will improve and you will look like you have all those things.

3. EXERCISE USES CALORIES

Most of us love our food – so we should, it is one of the great pleasures in life. While weight loss is 80% diet, adding more exercise allows us to enjoy a good meal and balance out its effect on our waistlines.

4.     EXERCISE MAKES YOU STRONG

We don’t need big muscles (unless we want them), but we do need muscles strong enough to support our joints and bones. Get those muscles moving to help those joints! Strength exercise increases bone density, making us less susceptible to breaks and osteoporosis.

5.     EXERCISES HELPS YOUR BODY TO LAST LONGER

The adage of ‘use it or lose it’ is very true. Muscles and joints that are kept moving continue to function. As we age it is even more important to keep to correct technique and not to over-strain anything. Exercise also helps to bring diabetes, blood pressure and cholesterol levels under control.

6.     EXERCISE GIVES YOU MORE ENERGY

This seems a contradiction when you are in the middle of a challenging workout – but it is true in the long term. Fitter bodies have better endurance, whether it is in the Amazon jungle or the urban one.

7.     EXERCISE HELPS YOU TO SLEEP WELL

As well as pleasant physical tiredness, exercise reduces stress. Concentrating on your sport or your workout pushes worries from your mind, and can even help to put it all into perspective. For that blissful moment as you sink into sleep at the end of an active day, there’s nothing better than exercise.

How many more reasons do you need?

Wherever you are, get through that front door and get exercising!

Exercise definitely boosts my mood, but I think that's down to simply feeling better physically. if I feel healthy then I am generally more positive.

It's so easy for exercise to be something people ditch before they've even got start. Like Mike said - regular matters and people who don't get what they want in a few short sessions need to appreciate it takes months if not years of commitment.

The key word here is regular. That's really what makes the difference to your health, mood, everything. Stopping and starting is not good for you. 3-4 times a week, no excuses. You will be guaranteed a happier life than if you didn't do that.
