Dance Yourself Fit!

The popularity of dance across the UK has sky rocketed since the popularity of TV shows including Strictly Come Dancing, Britain’s Got Talent and Sky’s Got to Dance. People of all ages, genders and backgrounds are getting into dance and it’s a fun and social way of getting fit too.

Regular dancing can be great for your self-confidence, fantastic for losing weight and wonderful for improving skills such as co-ordination, balance and endurance. There are so many different types of dance, there’s bound to be one for you!

Finding your Dance

Across the UK there are hundreds of dance schools and also many professional dance and fitness instructors who work in fitness centres and gyms. There are many ways to find a dance class, including using the search function at the Dance UK website, visiting Dance Near You or Change4Life’s website Let’s Dance.

It is also possible to find dance classes through PayasUGym, as our Fitness Classes search function allows you to pick out dance classes in your area. Zumba is one of the most popular but other classes including Tango, Latin and Salsa and even Line Dancing are available.

Types of Dance

There are many different types of dance you can enjoy and below is a closer look at just a few.

Ballet

More popularly started by children than adults but there are plenty of ballet fit classes out there, ballet’s basic steps are a wonderful foundation for any kind of dance.

Street Dance

One of the most popular growing forms of dance which includes many kinds of moves developed in the streets and nightclubs. Expect high energy and loud tunes.

Ballroom

Ballroom dancing classes are more popular than ever before thanks to television and it is a wonderful choice for improving posture, muscle strength and coordination.

Zumba

The fitness dance craze which can be enjoyed in gyms up and down the country. A fitness programme inspired by a range of Latin dances, you get hot, sweaty and seriously get a full work out.

This is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to dance. There are so many different styles and types you’re bound to find one which suits you and gives you the chance to dance yourself fit and have fun at the same time.

They have just started street dance lessons at my daughter's school and a few of the mums watching started joining in on the side, saying it was a great workout!!
