gym DETAILS

Originally funded by the National Lottery, the Leytonstone School Community Sports Centre is now a well-established and popular local gym throughout the area. With regular refurbishments and upgrades, this is a great value gym with excellent facilities.

The gym has 30 exercise stations. Equipment includes treadmills, stationary bikes and steppers, from manufacturers including Technogym and Vario. There is a good choice of cardio equipment, and pride of place goes to a ‘Pec Deck’machine. Free weights and resistance equipment provide everything that you need for an all-round workout. The gym has screens showing Sky sports and music channels, so there’s plenty to keep you motivated.

As well as fresh showers and changing rooms, the centre also offers a Swedish sauna.

The centre is a community hub, with plenty of other activities going on. There are aerobics and spinning classes on offer for adults. The sports hall provides a venue for racket sports, and an astroturf pitch is also available for hire. Several local sports clubs are also based at the centre. A popular children’s party idea is the ‘Monster Mansion’, which provides 80 feet of soft play fun in the sports hall.(Extra charges apply for these activities).

Offering a range of passes and no contract gym memberships, the centre welcomes everyone and provides an encouraging place to help you to get fit.

How to find us:
The centre is located to the west side of the school. Entry is on Forest Road (look for the black gates next to the houses). The nearest station is Leytonstone (Central Line), about twenty minutes walk away. Buses W15 (William Morris School – Hackney Town Hall) and W19 (Staffa Road – Hainault Street) stop on James Lane, near to the centre. Parking on-site is available at 50p for two hours; the parking permits can be purchased from the sports centre reception. Free parking is sometimes available in the surrounding streets.

Quite dirty but has been done up in the last few years. Enough equipment to have a good work out but you'all
Wait a long time on a weekday evening.

Decent swimming pool and sauna. Staff never have any idea about Payasugym and spend ages shifting about before admitting they have no idea how to let you in. Just basic training.

Leytonstone Leisure Centre says:

Hi Sasha, Thank you for your feedback. I pleased you enjoyed the facilities and will speak with the manager at Leytonstone to ask for a refresher training session. Kind Regards, Better

Small gym but very useful. Use it quite often. Not the cleanest but it's ok. The swimming pool is best avoided at weekends if you are not a child.

Leytonstone Leisure Centre says:

Thank you for you feedback. We have passed your comments back to the centre manager to help us improve the facilities in future. Kind Regards, Better Helpers

Local council no frills gym. Has enough got a good work out. Not particularly clean and absolutely rammed in the evenings.

Standard municipal gym. Very local to me so handy. It has most stuff and you can have a good work out. No frills of frills are your thing.

Very full in the evenings. Be prepared to wait. Good basic gym for a local municipal gym and I am lucky to have it at the bottom of my road. No frills but it's got most stuff.

Not too bad for local council gym. Recently done up but not really taken care of. But grubby and staff are half hearted.

I went at 2.00 on a week day afternoon so it was pretty empty. It's got all the stuff you need for a decent workout. Could be cleaner.
