Remember those bouncy castles from childhood? Wishing you could still have that much fun? The latest version of trampolining could be just what you are looking for.
There is always the bouncy castle and a few friends, but this isn’t really practical for most of us. The big garden trampolines sold for children can be used by adults, but need outdoor space and good weather.
Mini trampolines are a more practical alternative, and are used in fitness classes. You can also have one at home, although if you live in a flat best use it when the neighbours are out!
To solve this problem, trampolining parks are opening all over the UK. As well as fitness classes, they offer trampoline obstacle and bounce courses. Who could resist?
Half an hour on a trampoline will give you an excellent cardiovascular workout. The bouncy surface protects joints against impact injuries but still gives you the benefits of weight-bearing exercise.
Trampolining is particularly good for leg muscles, and because it is so much fun it often doesn’t feel like hard exercise. Rest assured that you will know about it next day.
For fitness trampolining, you should wear supportive trainers rather than jump barefoot. Most ladies will also need a sports bra for obvious reasons. Apart from that, standard t-shirt and shorts or leggings is all you need.
Some care is needed, although under instruction on a mini-trampoline the risk of injury should be low. The main risk is landing on something hard, so if you have your own trampoline make sure it is secure and well padded. For fitness trampolining, don’t jump too high. This means that you can control where you land and also increases the intensity of the workout.
Better still, get in touch with your gym or nearest trampoline park. For a stress-busting, fun and tough workout, you can’t beat the bounce!
Trampolining is great fun! I go on my kids 14ft trampoline and not sure how fit it gets me but I know it makes me feel good so that has to be worth something.
I used to have a mini-trampette (rebounder) which I loved using to run on the spot, and I remember it was meant to burn more calories than running for the same time. Maybe a mini rebounder would be better for your pelvic floor too Helen.
I used to love trampolining when I was younger. But I don't know if my pelvic floor would hold up to it now!

we have a trampoline park near us and even without kids, I am now inspired to give it a go. May get some funny looks but what the heck!
