Healthy dressings for a super-charged salad

Healthy dressings for a super-charged salad

Eating healthy salad is one thing, but when you smother them in dressings you’re undoing all the good.

Think salad without dressing is boring? Try these 4 low calorie dressing recipes made from simple, healthy ingredients:

1. Tahini dressing

If you like a creamy dressing, but want to avoid the traditional calorie-laden Caesar dressing, try this tasty alternative.

Simply mix 2 tablespoons of tahini paste with 100ml of water and a smidge of lemon juice. Hey presto, a creamy and dreamy dressing that’s really packed with goodness.

2. Honey mustard dressing

Go easy on the honey in this one, to keep the sugar count low. Try and use a good honey such as manuka, active or raw honey to get the best health benefits.

Mix honey, Dijon mustard, lemon juice and olive oil to gain a good consistency and gauge the ratios to your own taste.

3. Apple Cider Vinaigrette

Apple cider is the new “good for your gut” ingredient, so why not throw some on your salad for a healthy dressing that adds a sharp bite?

All you’ll need is 2 tablespoons of good cider vinegar, half a tablespoon of honey, a good glug of olive oil, pepper and salt. Mix together for the star of the salad!

4. Raspberry Vinaigrette

Packed of antioxidants thanks to the fruit content, this is just one more of your five-a-day sorted!

Add 100g raspberries, 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar, 2tbsp olive oil, a few leaves of tarragon, pepper and salt into and blender and whizz until a good dressing consistency. And voila!

I already do the lemon juice, honey and mustard one, but also add some dried chillies (recommended!). But I don't actually like the sound of raspberries all over my salad so will give that one a miss.

I tend to do the same old salad dressing alt the time - olive oil and cider vinegar. But then I add really tasty flavoursome ingredients to the salad, like stilton and olives, so that gives it the zing it needs. These sound nice though.

tahini for me too - never totally sure about sweet dressings on salad but this sounds good. Makes a change from hummus!

a way to use up the tahini left over after making hummus! I never thought of eating it on its own so will give that a try.
