OFFICE SNACKS THAT WILL NOT WRECK YOUR FITNESS PLAN

OFFICE SNACKS THAT WILL NOT WRECK YOUR FITNESS PLAN

The 9-5 desk job can be a challenge for your fitness plan. It is relatively easy to swerve the office cake run, but lunches and munches are still needed.

Office snacks need to be portable, long-lasting and without strong smells. Try these ideas to keep you and your colleagues happy.

1.STORES FOR THE DESK DRAWER

Bananas and apples are the classic no-packaging snack, and will last happily in the desk drawer for about three days. Keep a store of nuts, seeds and dried fruit too – buy in bulk and decant into small reusable containers. Make sure you aren’t nibbling without paying attention, as the calories can stack up.

2.ITEMS FOR THE FRIDGE

If there is a fridge in the office, make the most of it with a plastic box of healthy goodies. It only takes five minutes the night before to chop up tomatoes, cucumber, celery and a bit of cheese for an instant salad. Keep a couple of bottles of light dressing in that fridge and there is a tasty snack at a fraction of the price from the deli.

3. LUNCH BREAK PLANS

There are quite a few options for packed lunches that won’t pack on the pounds. Don’t underestimate the good old sandwich, with a protein-packed filling topped with salad or crunchy raw veg.

If there’s a microwave available your options widen. A jacket potato takes under ten minutes to cook. If you have leftovers from last night’s stir fry, give those a minute in the microwave and there is your topping.  Classic alternatives such as tuna with cheese or baked beans also make for a filling hot lunch.

With some spare moment commuter exercises for the journey and some good food for the day, there’s no need for office life to be unhealthy.

do you work in my office. Brittany? :-) I make the effort to make my own decent lunches and I agree, woe betide any food thieves!

hate to say it, but would like to add 'put your name on your food in the office fridge'. Reduces the chance of theft, and also means that the rest of us know who to ask to deal with the antique food that someone has forgotten about!
