Stop stressing about being stressed, you'll live longer

Worrying is human nature, after all there’s so much to worry about in life.

Instead of worrying about how much we’re worrying and stressing about how stressed we always are, we should be taking a bit of time for ourselves, stressing less and living longer as a result.

Strangely, research has shown that the more we worry about not doing enough exercise, the worse it is for us. A US study of 60,000 US adults explored perceptions of exercise and mortality.

Those who worried about being less active than others were up to 71% more likely to die in the follow up period 21 years later, regardless of their actual levels of physical activity or overall health.

So even if you aren’t doing enough exercise but you believe you are – then you’re likely to live longer than the worriers.

So it’s not the stress or worry that’s the issue in itself, but rather the worrying you do about those feelings.

If that hasn’t confused you, then just remember that you need to praise yourself when you do the recommend amount of daily exercise, but don’t beat yourself up over not doing enough. Believing stress is bad for you is a bad thing. So basically, don’t sweat the small stuff. Know and believe that you are doing everything ok!

If you accept that stress is a normal part of daily life, and believe that it’s not impacting you negatively then it will become nothing more than a feeling – not something worth losing any sleep over.

few things are less productive than wasting time worrying about the 'to do' list. Tackle some of it instead, problem solved! (or just go to the gym and stop worrying!)
