10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE MAY BE ALL YOU NEED TO BE HAPPIER

10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE MAY BE ALL YOU NEED TO BE HAPPIER

The science fiction writers all thought that the twenty-first century would be a time of leisure for all. Somehow it hasn’t quite worked out like that. Too many of us seem to be permanently in a hurry, dashing from home to work and back again with no time for ourselves.

This permanent stress is bad for both body and mind. What can we do and is it worth it if we can only fit in a small amount of exercise?

WHAT CAN I DO TO KEEP FIT WITH SO LITTLE TIME?

There are ways to combine a busy lifestyle with staying healthy. For instance, there are commuter fitness health hacks . There are ways to fit more exercise into office hours. There is also a growing body of evidence showing that a workout does not have to be long to be effective.

I FEEL HAPPIER WHEN I EXERCISE. IS A SHORT WORKOUT GOING TO HELP?

A literature review study has been published in the Journal of Happiness Studies – which sounds like somewhere that we would all like to work. The review seems to indicate that even ten minutes of exercise really does improve happiness levels. So even if you are really pushed for time, whatever exercise you can fit in will help.

ARE THERE ANY PARTICULAR EXERCISES THAT WILL MAKE ME HAPPIER?

The studies appeared to show that aerobic exercise and stretching exercises were particularly good for improving mood.  The reason for this is not clear, but we can theorise that feeling more flexible and getting a good blast of exercise to music will improve anyone’s mood.

The message as always seems to be to do the exercise that you enjoy. The important thing is that you look forward to it rather than dreading it.

That has to be the real route to happiness from exercise.

I feel so much more positive since starting to workout so I totally agree with this!
