5 REASONS TO REGAIN YOUR EXERCISE ENTHUSIASM

5 REASONS TO REGAIN YOUR EXERCISE ENTHUSIASM

Are you suffering from nearly- winter ennui? With the summer long gone and the Christmas juggernaut revving up, it can all feel like a bit of a slog at this time of year.

Some back-to-school September motivation may have helped a month or two ago. If the enthusiasm for exercise is slipping again, here are some reminders about why we have to get off the sofa, out of the door and back to the gym!

1.      EXERCISE BALANCES GOOD FOOD

Who wants to be having to watch what they eat the whole time? Being active means that you use more calories and can enjoy more good food. Keep it balanced with a good varied diet, and there’s no need to worry about a few extra items on the plate.

2.      EXERCISE CAN HELP YOU LIVE LONGER

We all know someone who will mutter ‘it will certainly seem longer’ – that’s not the attitude! If you enjoy your exercise it won’t be that way. Regular exercisers are less likely to get heart disease, stroke and other circulatory illnesses. Keeping weight under control with exercise also reduces the risk of digestive problems, and may even reduce cancer risk.

3.      EXERCISE KEEPS YOU MOVING LONGER

‘Use it or lose it’, they say, and that is especially true when it comes to muscles and joints. Correct levels of exercise (with proper form) aid flexibility and muscle strength. That will pay huge dividends in middle age and beyond.

4.      EXERCISE HELPS YOUR BRAIN

Getting the blood pumping doesn’t just help the visible muscles. There is evidence that regular physical exercise also increases brain power.

5.      EXERCISE ADDS HAPPINESS!

From virtuous glow to exercise high, the feel-good factor of movement and exertion is there for the taking. Any movement is exercise – inside the gym, getting to the gym, sorting out the garden or walking the dog, it all counts. Find the moves that make you happy (perhaps with some music to go with them) and you won’t even notice the effort.

Make the most of the dry days, the sunny days and the gym days. It really is worth the effort.

the first reason is a great advantage of exercising, and is one of the reasons I got into it in the first place - to be able to still eat nice stuff but not be overweight. It worked for me.

The more exercise I do, the more energetic I feel, so it's not often I don't feel like getting active!

I don't know why people stop exercising in the winter. I still go to the gym just as much, and I really appreciate the glow and heat of a good workout when it's cold outside. Nothing better!

dark evenings, miserable weather and the months-long relentlessness of Christmas - you're not wrong about this time of year! It is all too easy to head for home and hide. Resolving to head for the gym instead!
