EXERCISE BOOSTS CONFIDENCE AND WELL BEING

EXERCISE BOOSTS CONFIDENCE AND WELL BEING

Busy and stressful lives can mean the last thing we feel like doing is exercising. Before we know it we can lose the exercise habit. That has negative effects on mental health as well as physical fitness.

Health and happiness are sometimes described as a three-legged stool. Mind, body and spirit all matter and exercise helps all three.

DOES EXERCISE REALLY BOOST MOOD?

If you are sweating through a tough workout you may disagree, but there is plenty of evidence to encourage you to stick it out. There are real figures to show that exercise can reduce your odds of developing depression. This is not just because of the endorphins generated as the ‘exercise high’.

Exercise provides a distraction from life problems, helps with sleep and lowers stress levels. These distractions can really help to stop the spiral down into anxiety and depression.

On a less serious note, there’s nothing like the feeling of achievement after exercise. Whether it is a brisk walk or a tough fitness session, we all enjoy the sensation that we have done ourselves some good.

WHAT ABOUT CONFIDENCE?

Feeling better about yourself is a massive boost to anyone’s morale. Exercise doesn’t have to turn you into solid muscle in order to do that. Getting out, meeting people, sharing an experience (however sweaty) are all great ways to improve confidence. Exercise lets you do all of those.

These are yet more reasons to find exercise that you enjoy. That means you will look forward to the session and be certain to fit it into your timetable. With so many fitness choices, there is something for everyone.

Whatever your age or initial fitness level, there is all round health to be gained from exercise. It really is worth the effort.
