FIVE FITNESS TIPS THAT ARE WRONG

FIVE FITNESS TIPS THAT ARE WRONG

Every profession has its myths that annoy its members. Astronomers see red when people talk about zodiac signs. Doctors clutch their heads when patients come up with a cure they found online.

It is the same for fitness professionals. Here are 5 alleged tips that your trainer hopes not to hear from you!

1.FEEL THE BURN

This one dates from the Jane Fonda aerobics days, and is the idea that if exercise doesn’t hurt, it isn’t doing you any good. The problem is that not all pain is good pain. If that burn is in joints or feels like an injury, pushing on through can cause damage.

2.YOU CAN SPOT REDUCE

Anyone looking to thin their waistline (which is most of us) will have heard this one.  There are ways to tighten a saggy stomach. Any fat beneath that just has to be addressed with a calorie deficit. Unfortunately it is impossible to target fat loss.

3.YOU CAN GET LONGER AND LEANER WITH EXERCISE

There is no way that any adult is going to get taller or have longer limbs due to exercise! Muscle building and reducing fat will give the appearance of ‘leaner’ limbs, but their actual shape cannot be changed.

4.ONLY HARD WORKOUTS ARE WORTH IT

While hard tough workouts can burn more calories, any movement or exercise does your body some good. The worst thing for all of us is too much sitting around. As long as you reduce the time not moving, you’ll make gains and do your health good.

5.XXX WORKOUT IS THE BEST WAY TO LOSE WEIGHT

The XXX can be running, swimming, weight training or many others – but it doesn’t matter because there is no universal ‘best’ way to lose weight. The best workout for you is the one you enjoy, because that means you will actually do it.

Believe your trainer, not the myths. That’s the way to fitness!

if exercise made you taller I would be a completely different shape! I think that the most important thing is to make the best of the body that you have, not to wish for a different one.

Feel the burn - that's good - so long as not injury related as the article says. But muscle burn during a workout, that's how you know you're pushing yourself!

good common sense stuff - but it is worrying how much of this nonsense endures even among serious gym users!
