WHY EVERYONE SHOULD DO STRENGTH TRAINING

YOU MIGHT THINK THAT STRENGTH TRAINING IS JUST FOR BODYBUILDERS. BUT BUILDING MUSCLE IS ONLY THE BEGINNING OF THE BENEFITS YOU WILL REAP FROM LIFTING WEIGHTS.

HERE’S WHY WORKING OUT WITH WEIGHTS IS SOMETHING EVERYONE SHOULD DO:

1.      KEEPS EXCESS WEIGHT OFF

Strength training helps you lose body fat, helping you look great naked! But do it regularly: studies show that women who do weight training 3 times a week increased the calories they burned during the rest of the day, while some studies suggest it can boost metabolism for up to 38 hours after!

2.      PROTECTS BONE HEALTH

Men and women lose 1 per cent of their bone mass every year after puberty. But thankfully you can stop, prevent and even reverse muscle loss with strength training. Women over 40 particularly benefit, as lifting weights increases bone density so can help prevent osteoporosis.

3.      BETTER COORDINATION AND PERFORMANCE

Strength training develops your recognition of the interconnection between different body parts. This improves inner communication which will help improve your performance in others areas such as traditional cardio, martial arts or even rock climbing!

4.      HELPS PREVENT DISEASE

Lifting weights can help control health issues that might lead to more serious diseases. It can help control glucose, reduce high blood pressure and cholesterol and control obesity – all factors for heart disease.  And you don’t need to do a lot of training to see results.

5.      BOOSTS MOOD

Strength training elevates your endorphins so you will definitely feel better, with more energy, reduced depression and even improved brain functioning. If you haven’t already sorted out sleep issues, strength training is also shown to help with insomnia.

6.      IT’S FUN!

Let’s not forget the enjoyment factor of lifting weights. 20 – 30 minutes of training 3 times a week is all you need, and it can be really fun to set goals and see yourself progress as your strength increases.

I love how modern fitness trends have leaned towards strength training. I'm not a big fan of cardio, but could sit for ages doing strength exercises, and loving being reminded of how good they are for you.
