The centre was built in the 1960s, but has been regularly modernised and refurbished to provide everything that 21st century customers expect.

The gym covers a full workout for both cardio and resistance work, in two separate areas. There is a wide choice of machines, including equipment from Technogym. As well as ranks of rowing machines and treadmills, there is a good range of free weights and Swiss balls. A reserved stretching area gives space for that post-workout cool down.

The centre also has a large leisure pool with a waterslide, and offers group exercise classes in the fitness studio. The new functional zone adds an extra dimension to workouts and fitness classes. This area provides specialised equipment including an Xcube frame, and increased stationary bike capacity. A climbing wall, squash courts and a sports hall provide even more choices. After your workout, the health suite offers aromatherapy and a steam room to leave you feeling fully relaxed. (Extra charges apply).

A new development is the women-only classes and workout sessions. These are open to females aged 14 or over. The centre continues to expand its role as a health centre for the community.

With so much to do and plenty of qualified staff, Britannia Leisure Centre is the perfect place to help you to get fit.

The centre is located on Hyde Road at the junction with Pitfield Street, behind Hoxton Market and just on the edge of Shoreditch Park. The nearest stations are Haggerston (National Rail) and Old Street (National Rail and Northern Line, Bank branch) Buses 242 (Homerton Hospital – Tottenham Court Road Station), 149 (Edmonton Green – London Bridge) and 394 (Homerton Hospital – Islington Police Station ) are among many services that pass near to the centre.
There are 60 spaces in the on-site car park.

The gym is very small, the lockers are in the main hallway where there is a lot of foot traffic and there is a very small stretch area and a lot of people trying to use it. Fine for one use but would not recommend monthly subscription.

The facilities are spacious and the gym is pretty big. The cardio facilities were not busy (lunchtime) but the weights section was slightly more busy. There could have been more free weights, mats & boxes for jumps. Reception staff were terrible; lacked interest. The gym is also a bit dirty as w

Went after the holidays, still early in the morning. Mostly men working out but I wasn't bothered and able to have a great workout. The staff was helpful and the equipment was good in terms of selection and maintenance. The bathroom wasn't very clean.

Staff didn't seem to know what they were doing, long queues at the front desk, took ages just to check in with my day pass. Facilities old and worn, half the toilets didn't work. Will be going elsewhere.

Not amazing. No squat rack. No real place to do deadlifts. quite busy. People workout in corridors.
Though its ok if you can't find another gym and need a quick work out.
